We continue our employee spotlight series.
This week we met with Deepak Karun, Sales Engineer Lead for MENA.
What does your job entail?
My work entails extreme interaction with customers that included solution design, product presentations and demonstrations. I also participate in presale activities with the sales team. I am pleased that my work has given me many opportunities to train the end users on the topic of data governance.
Other than that my key tasks include preparing Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
What do you like most about your job?
I am a very collaborative person. I believe in the idea that when groups of people come together to resolve problems, the magic happens! I love how cooperative our team has been and I look forward to encouraging/collaborating with other team members going forward. I greatly appreciate the fact that I interact with our clients. Even customer support emails make me smile 😊
I am a people person – I like to think that our customers are real people who have real problems. That is fulfilling for me.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
The amusing fact that most of my colleagues or people don’t know much about me is that I am a workaholic (I joke).
My interest in data security led me to design and develop a prototype of the product in my college days, years before I heard about Getvisibility as an enterprise. The same excitement in me is the reason which impels me every day to conquer new challenges.
When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
In my free time, one of the noblest that I chose is to become a volunteer for a local non-governmental organisation. There are innumerable social evils which are rampant in the society, if by doing our bit to fight against them or even spread some awareness about it then we automatically become bound to help many people, without even knowing it. Apart from these I end up in reading tech blogs as well as doing my own research in the Infosec space.
What’s your favourite indoor/outdoor activity?
Back in the days when I was a young college student, I used to practice and enjoy many kinds of outdoor activities. But, gone are those good old days now and instead, I remain stuck at my job most of the time these days. Such a pity! However, one favourite outdoor activity which I still manage to enjoy from time to time, even in my busy schedule, is “driving” – yes, driving around nature is one of my most favourite outdoor activities these days.
What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
The important career lesson I’ve learned at work is how valuable connections with other people are. Whether it’s with a professional colleague, friend, or family member, each relationship you build with another person adds another beam of support to what you’re building for yourself.
Though there’s much you can create by working alone, the greatest success often comes when you create and work with a network of friends and colleagues. Think about your personal life -would it be where it is today without the connections and relationships you’ve built with the people you love the most? Each person in your network is a valuable member of your team and adds invaluable quality to your life.
How would you describe the people and culture at Getvisibility?
Getvisibility has an open culture that allows employees at every level to share their ideas, suggestions and concerns with the management.
What is your motto or personal mantra?
“Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it.” – Maya Angelou
This personal mantra is what manifestation is all about in a nutshell. It reminds us that once we express our desires, it’s important to believe that they will be given to us.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
Telepathy – for those who don’t know what this is, telepathy is communicating with another person with just your mind, without speaking. Basically, you could talk to another person without anyone else hearing you. And I don’t know about you, but I think this could definitely come in handy. I’d never have to take a test alone again! But I’m sure there are a lot of other secretive things you could tell people without having any eavesdroppers! Plus you wouldn’t need a cell phone, you could just use your mind! This superpower could really cut down on communication costs!
