The talent that we attract and have here at Getvisibility is humbling.
This week we sit down with Manuel Martín de Miguel, who works on the heart of our ML technology as an Engineer.
What does your job entail?
I’m tasked with helping develop, set up and improve the automated Machine Learning pipelines that Getvisibility uses to train and execute AI models.
What do you like most about your job?
I have always liked working on cutting edge technology and in Getvisibility we get to work with the latest on ML and also with very knowledgeable people. Another thing I find interesting is the defensive nature of our platform, knowing that we are helping people protect their data makes me feel good about what we are doing.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
The way I started my career is a little strange! Before focusing on AI and development, I worked in the security industry for some years mostly because when I was young I used to be online hanging around these nerdy kids that liked hacking, programming etc. Later on I met them by chance in real life and I ended up working with them for years. I don’t know if that could be called fun but I always found it weird. One funny small fact is that on Getvisibility calls I’m often secretly trying to avoid my cat trying to join: his favourite place is between my keyboard and my screen 🐈
When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
When I find a small gap I will usually use it to read or watch some news about the latest stuff on topics that are of interest to me. I will probably be watching some news on YouTube or reading news about science, technology, AI, but also sometimes politics etc. Sometimes I could just start reading Wikipedia out of the blue. I also like chatting with friends online.
What’s your favourite indoor/outdoor activity?
When indoor I like feeding my curiosity by reading about stuff I’m interested in or learning about something new. I also like the usual stuff: watching movies and series, sometimes playing video games, I enjoy science fiction a lot. I like cooking something special from time to time and I also enjoy playing board games with friends. When outdoors I like traveling and discovering new places, especially if they are of historical interest. I like finding good places to eat. I also like hiking from time to time, but I mostly like trying different activities, for example just in the last month I tried riding horses, driving karts and wakeboarding for the first time 🙂
What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
One of the most important things I have learned is that often the best solution to a problem is the simplest one that does the job. I have also learned to be very sceptical of any solution that can hinder productivity or could hinder it in the future. By default complexity tends to grow and bog everything down if left unchecked so the best approach is to actively and proactively fight it.
How would you describe the people and culture at Getvisibility?
I have joined recently but the people are very nice, knowledgeable and professional. The culture seems to be a getting things done culture which I enjoy.
What is your motto or personal mantra?
I like the KISS principle, I also believe in always trying to improve yourself.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
Mind control always seems to win over all the other superpowers, except in the foundation books 😉
