Overview
The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) are two important United States export control laws that affect the manufacturing, sales and distribution of technology.
The legislation seeks to control access to specific types of technology and the associated data. In simpler words, it means two things:
1. US intellectual property has to be checked if it can be shared with non-US citizens.
2. Arms regulation requires highly sensitive state information to be protected from access by other countries’ intelligence services.
